They Shoot Gilmores, Don't They?

Paris:                Why are we working Saturday, Paris?  Whats so special about the 75th issue, Paris?  Why does my head feel so light, and yet not float away, Paris?

Rory:         What?

Paris:        What is he doing here?

Rory:         I bet hes here to see you.

Paris:        He hasnt called me once.  I havent seen or heard from him since we had our date in Washington three months ago.

Rory:         Maybe he wants to explain why.

Paris:        He was supposed to go away, and never come back.  I already wrote his name in my revenge notebook.

Rory:        Paris, he knows youre standing here talking about him.

Paris:        What does he want?

Rory:         Go over there and find out.

Paris:        (to Jaime) What do you want?

Jaime:        Im on break from school, I thought Id come down and see you.

Paris:         But, you never called.

Jaime:        I know.

Paris:         You lost my number?

Jaime:        Nope, I memorized your number.

Paris:         You didnt want to use my number.

Jaime:        I was starting classes.

Paris:         Any in phone dialing? Hows it going?

Jaime:        Look, Paris.  This year is very important for me.  I thought the last thing I needed was a distraction.

Paris:         Well, I totally understand.  This year is very important for me, too.  Im focusing on getting into Harvard, and the last thing that I need is a distraction.  So, good move.  You saved us both a lot of distractions.  (shakes his hand)  Thank you, and good luck.  (he doesnt let go of her hand)  I need my hand.

Jaime:        If I let go, how fast will you run away?

Paris:         3.2 seconds.

Jaime:        I thought so.  Hey, Rory.

Rory:         Hey, Jaime.  Hows Princeton?

Jaime:       Its goodcrazy, but.

Paris:        Let go.

Jaime:       No.

Paris:        Yes.

Jaime:       Paris.

Paris:        Look, you dont have to be nice.  You dont have to tie up loose ends.  I get it.  Im a distraction.  Now, either pulling a Boxing Helena, or give me back my hand.

Jaime:       Yes, talking to you would have been a distraction.

Paris:        I know, I heard you, already.  Find a parrot to sit on okay.

Jaime:       But it turns out that not talking to you has been impossible.

Paris:        What?

Jaime:       I flunked a pop quiz in poli sci because I couldnt stop thinking about you.  Still want your hand back?

Paris:        Ive got another.

Jaime:      Ive thought a lot about this, and apparently youre a distraction that Im supposed to have.

Paris:       You didnt have a bad time on the date?

Jaime:      Are you busy right now?

Paris:       Well,

Rory:        Nope, were done.  Shes free.

Jaime:      Good.  Lets go get some coffee.  (takes her books)  Bye, Rory.

Rory:        Bye, Jaime.

Paris:       He took my books.

Rory:        Well go get them back.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rory:         Well?
Lane:         Its still ringing. (hangs up phone)  Hes home.
Rory:         Howd he sound?
Lane:         Homey.
Rory:         Nice.
Dean:        I know this is a stupid question, but why cant you just talk to him?
Lane:         Because, yesterday he called to say that they were still looking for a rehearsal space, and that hed call when he had more news.  So now I have to wait, until he calls about the band, and in between, I call and hang up on him.  I know I sound pathetic.
Rory:         Not so pathetic.  I used to call and hang up on Dean all the time.
Dean:        You did?
Lane:         I remember that.
Dean:        When did you hang up on me?
Rory:         Right, when we first met.
Dean:        Why didnt you just say something?
Rory:         I couldnt do that.
Dean:        Why not?
Rory:         Because then you would have known I was calling, and therefore, that I liked you.
Dean:        Yes, but I liked you, too.
Rory:         Well, I know that now.
Dean:        Well, you could have known that then.
Rory:         Dean, please.  This is a girl thing.
Dean:        Okay, tell me when Im supposed to pay attention here.
Lane:         Im gonna love him forever, and hes never gonna know it.
Dean:        He would if you just said something.
Rory:         Dean.
Dean:        Sorry.
Lane:         At least hes at home and not out with a girl.
Rory:         Very true.
Dean:        He could be at home with a girl.
Rory:         Dean!
Dean:        Sitting here, staring at my pizza.
Lane:         You think he was at home with a girl.
Rory:         No.  No, I dont.
Lane:         Im gonna call again.
Rory:         Good idea, and  pay attention to the background noise this time.
Lorelei:      Ooh, cool, pizza.
Rory:         Shh.  Shes calling Dave to see if she can hear a girl in the background.
Lorelei:      Ah.
Dean:        I voted that she actually say something.
Lorelei:      Youre a boy.  You know nothing about this.
Jess:         I notice Rorys not dancing with Dean.
Lane:        Nothing gets past you, does it?
Jess:         How come?  Trouble in paradise?
Lane:        Rorys dancing with her mother, nothings wrong with her and Dean, and youre blocking my sandwiches from the rest of the room.
Jess:         I know, theyre erecting a statue of me in the park later this week.
Rory:         The sandwiches are for the dancers.
Jess:         Im dancing on the inside.
Rory:         What are you doing here?
Jess:         I live here.
Rory:         You have nothing better to do than to sit around inside a gymnasium all day staring at a dance marathon?
Jess:         (to Dean) I dont know, do you have nothing better to do that sit inside a gymnasium all day staring at a dance marathon?
Dean:        I wouldnt direct any sort of comment toward me if I were you.
Jess:         Im just trying to spoil my town.
Rory:         Good, then go back to New York.
Jess:         Oh, zany rabbit, snap.
Rory:         You think youre bugging me, sitting in front of me, staring like that?
Jess:         You think youre bugging me, dancing in front of me, staring like that?
Rory:         Im not staring at you.
Jess:         How do you know Im staring at you?
Rory:         I am dancing.  I cannot control where my glance goes, and the few moments that I can control it, my glance goes to Dean, not to you.
Jess:         So, you cant control when you look at me, but you have to force yourself to look at him?  Sorry, man, thats cold.
Dean:        My former comment still stands.
Rory:         Go home.
Jess:         No thanks.
Rory:         Then get out of my way.
Jess:         I didnt realize I was in your way.  There you go, its all yours.  God, help you.
Shane:      Where did you go?  Ive been sitting out there for twenty minutes.
Jess:         Breaks only for ten.
Shane:       Its just a saying.
Jess:         Came to get food.
Shane:       Good, Im starved.
Rory:         The food is for the dancers.
Shane:       Who are you?  Bobby Brady?  Get a life.
Jess:         Rorys feeling a little territorial today.
Shane:       Whatever, God what is this thing?
Dean:        Rory, get your stuff and lets go.
Jess:         Oh, that was good.  Now say, and get in there and make me my supper.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Rory:         Hes still there.

Dean:        What?

Rory:         Jess, hes still there.  I cant believe hes still there.

Dean:        Just ignore him.

Rory:         Yeah.  You know, this is a dance marathon.  Youre not supposed to come and sit and watch.  Youre supposed to dance.  Hes just trying to bug me.  Sitting there, right in front of me, staring, jerk.

Shane:       Im bored.

Jess:         Okay (they start kissing)

Rory:         There they go again.  God, I swear.  Why cant they just get a room?  Or forget a room, get a park bench, or a doorway, or even a strategically placed telephone pole would probably suffice.  I mean, girls like Shane, what is it with them?  Dont they see what they look like?  I know they have mirrors.

Jess:         Hey, you talking about me?

Rory:         No.

Jess:         I heard you mention Shane.

Rory:         Shane isnt you.

Jess:         Shane concerns me.

Rory:         Shane concerns me, too, and all women for that matter.

Jess:         You got a problem, here?

Rory:         Nope.  Just a little sick of seeing the two of you, sitting there.  If youre not going to participate, then why dont you just leave?

Shane:       That works for me, lets go.

Jess:         No.

Rory:         Why not?

Jess:         Because Im not ready to go.

Rory:         Oh, really.

Jess:         Yes, really.  Im gonna sit here as long as I like, and Im gonna do whatever I like.  And if you dont like it, then just ignore me, and pay attention to your boyfriend.

Dean:        Sorry, she cant.  Im not her boyfriend anymore.

Rory:         What?

Dean:        You know I tried to ignore this, I really did.  But I dont know what the hell I was thinking.

Rory:         What are you talking about?

Dean:        You dont want to be with me, Rory.

Rory:         Yes, I do.

Dean:        Oh, please.  Youve been into him since he got to town.  And Ive spent weeks, months actually, trying convincing myself that it wasnt true, that everything was fine between us.  But now I know that I was an idiot.  Youre into him, and hes into you, and Shane, who by the way should be listening to this, because its so damn obvious.

Rory:         Whats obvious?  What did I do?

Dean:        Everyone can see, Rory!  Everyone.  And Im tired.  But Im over it.  So go ahead, go.  Be together.  Theres nothing standing in your way now, because Im out.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jess:         Deans a jerk.  Yelling at you like that, breaking up in front of everybody.  The guys a total jerk.
Rory:         No, hes not.  He was right.  Everything he said, all those things about you and me, all those things about,  me lying to me, about messing with his head.  He was right.  (looks at Jess)  Wasnt he?  Fine!  He was right about me, then.  Now, go away.
Jess:         He was right, about, all of it.
Rory:         So, what now?
Jess:         Are you definitely broken up with Dean?
Rory:         Yeah, Im definitely broken up with Dean.
Jess:         Okay.  I have go take care of something now.
